How it’s used online
The bat version is the bonk meme. Doge swings, Cheems gets hit. People post it at someone
who has been naughty or said something out of line. Sometimes it is a hammer or another
object instead of a bat. The other common way is to label all three parts so one thing takes out
another. The crying version is usually lighter and tends to get used for small everyday
disappointments.
How it’s used by brands
Use the bat whenever one thing puts an end to another. You can call out a habit you want
people to stop, make fun of something in your industry, or bring in something new by putting it
on the bat and the old thing on the small dog. A price cut, a launch, a restock, a rule you are
getting rid of, all of it works. The crying version works for the other direction, when someone
missed out, paid too much or stayed with something worse for too long. It also works for
community posts that build engagement, something relatable your audience will recognise,
like Friday knocking the work week out of the way.
